greetings from sunny (and foggy) los angeles, ca

Hi, I'm heather. I like taking pictures. I take a lot of them. I stay up way too late. I wake up with my kids way too early (for me). Though slowly I'm learning that sleep is good.

I love photographing newborns, toddlers, kids (I've got two of my own), families, pets...you name it! Large groups and weddings make me way too nervous, but I'd be happy to refer you to other photographers in the area.

I love to hear your comments, so feel free to add to my blog by posting. Having a hard time remembering "umami?" Well, I wanted a name that would be easy to remember, spell and find, but apparently I did none of that, so if you'd like to get emails when I post, just add your email to the "subscribe here" box... you'll be the first to find out when I'll be offering mini sessions and other specials!

have a happy day... heather

thanks for the nudge diana

Where have I been? Right here! I'm at home, but have been so busy the last few weeks. Jack's got a cold, I've been trying to catch some of the Olympics AND, AND, AND... I'm finally working on my website!!! I know it's been "under construction" for the past year, but now it's really in the works. I'm hoping to have a big launch with new prices and products starting in the fall. Wooo hoo!

Some notes from the last couple weeks:

  • kaylie is now potty trained and wakes up with a dry diaper most mornings
  • though very dramatic, jack will jump off the edge of the pool and try to swim
  • kaylie is obsessed with anything princess. "Ooo, is that a princess thing?" "Mommy, can you take down the princess dress please?"... repeat 100 times a day
  • big things will be happening soon at www.umamiphotography.com
And because a post it not a post without a few photos... here are some snaps from my trip up to San Jose. Thanks to Cindie for having us over to play in her 'hood!

SPECTACULAR!!! beautiful colors and kids!!! Glad I inspired this post. Well, at least I pushed for it. The kids inspired it!

Glad you're back and better than ever.

P.S. Gracie and Kaylie are going through the exact same things!! Does she make you play the Disneyland parade 8 millions times a day too???

OMG!!! Those pics are so adorable!!!! You are amazing, considering all the chaos of our 'hood.

John wants to know what were the settings on your camera for those shots (i.e. EV composition, shutter speed, F stop). Or is all of that is just talent? ;) ;)

Woah! Maybe I should take a posting break more often. Look at all these comments! thanks guys. :)

Diana-- no Disney parade yet, but I think that's because she hasn't seen the parade yet. She does love all the disney books... Little Mermaid, Cim-brella. The movies kind of freak the kids out.

Sarah--Ooo... new website's looking good! Now if only it would write its own content...

Cindie--I'll have to check out LJ.. my Internet's been super off and on lately too.

Junella--Little J is such a ham... He's the perfect poser... :) He let me take like 10 pictures of him posed that way.
Let's see.. settings.
That was my canon 85mm 1.8 lens. ISO 100, f 2.2, 1/160th sec. This lens works great for setting the subject apart from the background. Let me know if you want more info!
