greetings from sunny (and foggy) los angeles, ca

Hi, I'm heather. I like taking pictures. I take a lot of them. I stay up way too late. I wake up with my kids way too early (for me). Though slowly I'm learning that sleep is good.

I love photographing newborns, toddlers, kids (I've got two of my own), families, name it! Large groups and weddings make me way too nervous, but I'd be happy to refer you to other photographers in the area.

I love to hear your comments, so feel free to add to my blog by posting. Having a hard time remembering "umami?" Well, I wanted a name that would be easy to remember, spell and find, but apparently I did none of that, so if you'd like to get emails when I post, just add your email to the "subscribe here" box... you'll be the first to find out when I'll be offering mini sessions and other specials!

have a happy day... heather

questions about pricing

so... pretty much for the last year I've been mulling over how to price my work. I'd love to just photograph and give all the images away for free, but as I shoot more and more, I'm finding myself spending more and more $$ (and taking time away from the fam). I need to upgrade my camera, add a few lenses, buy a shopping cart program, get a website... so alas, I must earn some money to keep up with this passion of mine.

I'm curious.... what's more important? Digital files or quality prints? Would you rather be able to buy the digital negatives so you can print your own images, or would you rather buy professionally printed images where the grass is green, but not your son's face? Or are both equally important? What about albums, coffee table books, canvases... how important are these?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Oh and huzzah! Jack and Kaylie will both be at school tomorrow morning. 3 hours of me time! Well, maybe not 3 hours since there's a school intro meeting I have to go to, but next Mon and Wed I'll have me time!

Drum roll please..... website should be ready within a week or so!
here's a quick sneak peak of the opener to my website!

I think digital images are more convenient for you and most people. It's also easier for people to use them for whatever purposes they want. I rarely print pictures b/c I make bound books. I'll refer you (you knew that tho'!)

Probably digital pictures work best for me, too. It was so easy to have them printed. And make sure you charge a lot for your photos! I want you to be rich!! And I'll send lots of people your way, too. Can't wait to see you. Just talked to Reb she's a go for the 13th.
