greetings from sunny (and foggy) los angeles, ca

Hi, I'm heather. I like taking pictures. I take a lot of them. I stay up way too late. I wake up with my kids way too early (for me). Though slowly I'm learning that sleep is good.

I love photographing newborns, toddlers, kids (I've got two of my own), families, pets...you name it! Large groups and weddings make me way too nervous, but I'd be happy to refer you to other photographers in the area.

I love to hear your comments, so feel free to add to my blog by posting. Having a hard time remembering "umami?" Well, I wanted a name that would be easy to remember, spell and find, but apparently I did none of that, so if you'd like to get emails when I post, just add your email to the "subscribe here" box... you'll be the first to find out when I'll be offering mini sessions and other specials!

have a happy day... heather

on sabbatical

Hi everyone,
Thanks for hanging in there with me during my 3 month posting hiatus. I've been trying to figure out how to balance time between my family, photography and our major home remodel - and I just decided I feel too much like an octopus juggling all these things. When I do something, I give 110% and I just feel like there's not enough time in the day do give that much to everyone. As must as I love all my clients and photographing those sweet little toddlers and newborns, I'm going to have to take a step back for awhile.

As many of you know, I'm am awful and making decisions and can spend hours researching online (everything from finding the best photo lab to the best countertop), so this remodel will have me floored for the good part of a year. I will still be doing sessions for anyone who has an outstanding gift certificate and I'm planning on doing some holiday card sessions in the fall.

There's so much more to say, but I'm also helping out with 2 school auctions and have to get back to some editing and uploading so we can raise money for the schools! I'm so happy to say my photos helped raise over $1000 for Jack's class. Yay!

I'm thinking of starting a blog for our remodel (that is if I don't find another house for us to buy first. ;)...

See you soon!

Guess what?! That was me! I'm sure I never mentioned it but over a year ago I drew up plans (at great expense) to remodel my house. After starting the interview process, I realized I was in over my head b/c my personality was not going to be able to tolerate a year plus of living in chaos... so...after a year of looking I moved!!! Best decision EVER!

You have a different situation b/c you have a fab location that would be hard to replace, although keep an open mind to it...there are serious deals now. We have a pool now, so maybe this summer bring the kiddies for a swim!

p.s. I, too, am heading the fundraiser auction for my school...so I know your pain! If you need any forms or suggestions, email me. I have a whole file from the last time I did it.

Thanks Diana!
I'm actually not even heading the kids' auctions, I'm just helping out, but I seem to make every job a little bigger than it needs to be...and then when you do a good job, you seem to get more work handed to you. I'm so happy to help though, it's a good feeling and the school's need it (especially those LAUSD schools and teachers)!

I didn't know you were planning to remodel. I know, I keep looking for a house that would be perfect for us, but I do love our house and our spot and I think after the remodel it will be ever that much better. But oh, the decisions! Seems the houses I do see would still need a lot of work or just aren't my style, so would need work down the road. And then we'd have to deal with selling our place and that will not be fun since we bought near the market peak. So back to remodel. I did find a great looking house that I pretty much love (not enough to marry, but the view is to die for)... anyway, it's only over a million more than we could ever dream of paying... so what am I even thinking?! It all seems like funny money to me though.

Anyway, I can't wait to come try out your pool this summer! Count us in!
