greetings from sunny (and foggy) los angeles, ca

Hi, I'm heather. I like taking pictures. I take a lot of them. I stay up way too late. I wake up with my kids way too early (for me). Though slowly I'm learning that sleep is good.

I love photographing newborns, toddlers, kids (I've got two of my own), families, pets...you name it! Large groups and weddings make me way too nervous, but I'd be happy to refer you to other photographers in the area.

I love to hear your comments, so feel free to add to my blog by posting. Having a hard time remembering "umami?" Well, I wanted a name that would be easy to remember, spell and find, but apparently I did none of that, so if you'd like to get emails when I post, just add your email to the "subscribe here" box... you'll be the first to find out when I'll be offering mini sessions and other specials!

have a happy day... heather

where we got married

I'm renting a fabulous lens right now and might have to add it to my collection soon (85mm 1.8).
After school today I took the kids to the place where Matt and I got married almost 5 years ago. It was pretty cold (okay 56 degrees may not be cold in some parts of the country, but it was windy too), so I bundled the kids in their warmest coats. I was hoping they'd want to SIT STILL and watch the surfers so I could get some posed shots, but they had zero interest in smiling for the camera or sitting still. They had so much fun running all around the grounds. Here are some of my favorite pics from this afternoon. Oh and just for fun, I'll start off with a quick storyboard we used for our 2003 Christmas card. (Wedding photos by Brian Hoddes).

been working on my black and whites... how's it look?
Looks to me like jack needs to start actually looking THROUGH his glasses. :)

I've got another maternity shoot coming up in the next week or so, and I'm trying to convince my friend Sarah to let me post a few of her early maternity ones. Be back soon!

The kids are deliciously cute. Your photography is amazing! I'm always amazed at how your shots get better and better--when I think there really isn't any room for improvement! Well done, H.

Awe thanks Cindy! It's so nice to have you as a cheerleader. :) Oh, and I still have a LONG way to go... you should see how many outtakes I have.

I actually came to check your blog since your little guy has glasses. Mine wears glasses too and I am always struggling to photograph him. Looking to learn from you. I had to laugh when I saw the one of him looking over his glasses, just what my son does. Then your caption...too funny. Makes me crazy when mine looks at me and I have to say...look through your glasses please!!! So cute, I'm adding you to my list!
