greetings from sunny (and foggy) los angeles, ca

Hi, I'm heather. I like taking pictures. I take a lot of them. I stay up way too late. I wake up with my kids way too early (for me). Though slowly I'm learning that sleep is good.

I love photographing newborns, toddlers, kids (I've got two of my own), families, pets...you name it! Large groups and weddings make me way too nervous, but I'd be happy to refer you to other photographers in the area.

I love to hear your comments, so feel free to add to my blog by posting. Having a hard time remembering "umami?" Well, I wanted a name that would be easy to remember, spell and find, but apparently I did none of that, so if you'd like to get emails when I post, just add your email to the "subscribe here" box... you'll be the first to find out when I'll be offering mini sessions and other specials!

have a happy day... heather

baby marlo ... just in time for easter

We had quite an exciting night/morning the other day when Amy and Alden dropped 3 year old Logan off at our house at 3:30am - the kids' first slumber party with a non-cousin. And today Lo's sister Marlo had her first carpool... we squeezed her little infant seat in between Jack and Kaylie's carseats as we picked her up for her first photoshoot. I don't normally do photoshoots at my own house since I think it's nice to have your own belongings in the photos, but I really wanted to meet Marlo and this was the only way we could arrange it today.

Little Miss Marlo Leigh (love the name!) had a bit of a rough start... awake, hungry and scratching herself with these hands that look liked they had a french manicure. But once she was fed (and thank you for not pooping or peeing on us!) and we heated her up with a hair dryer she calmed right down and gave us a few zzzz's. I think Amy may try the hairdryer trick tonight if Marlo decides to pull another all nighter.

the french manicure (oh and the cutest furry shoulders)

in preparation for Marlo's arrival, I somehow got the knitting bug and have taught myself to knit and crochet by reading books from the library and watching videos on youtube (such a great resource!). One of my creations...

And then when I told Amy that I had taken up knitting, I'd come home to find bags of yarn on my front porch! Here's some she left me that I knitted into a funny little hat!

isn't she just so beautiful?! And Amy looks amazing of course! Thanks for letting me kidnap you guys today!

Have a happy Easter everyone! At 6:30 this evening I realized that we hadn't made our Easter eggs yet, so off to a late start, we did manage to hard boil the eggs and decorate them in time for the Easter bunny to hide them tonight (no way the Easter bunny will be waking up before the kids to hide them in the morning...ha!).

Note Kaylie's dress over a dress look, because wearing just one dress is never enough for this girly girl who loves to get dirty.

Heather, awesome shots. Marlo is so cute...love the hair! And, youtube, is great for just about anything if you're a visual learner like me. That's how I learned casting (for knitting), how to decorate my cookies, how to make an Easter banner, and lately how to Salsa dance with Paul. Amazing!! And it was all free!! Even better.:)
I still want you to come out & photograph our kids.;)

lol...grace! I know, I couldn't believe Marlo's hair! Matt's been learning guitar though youtube. I wanted to learn how to crochet a granny square and all the written patterns were so confusing with the abbreviations that I turned to youtube... so great! Salsa dancing? I can't wait to check this out! Matt and I took a class with an instructor (years ago) and I still couldn't figure it out!

Hey Kimberly! Thanks for stopping by, I always love new visitors! And I love your new website!

Thanks Amy for everything!!!
